Weekend Adventure

This past Saturday mom and I went on an adventure. We traveled to Winterset IA, birthplace of John Wayne. Believe it or not we did not do any "John Wayne" sight seeing but we did go on our own "Adventure".

For lunch we ate at the Northside Cafe on the square.

It is right across from the old Courthouse, a stately looking building. Of course....all of the businesses on the square are right across from the old Courthouse. That is part of the charm of an old small town.
We enjoyed the nice breeze coming in through the wooden screen door at the front of the cafe while we munched on our "fresh from the griddle" fare.
After lunch we headed off to an "Antique" place we had heard about on an earlier visit to Winterset. It is located in the Old County Jail that has been now turned into an Antique store.
In case you hadn't noticed...take a closer look at the sign.......it is an old jail.....and they "Cell" antiques.

Mom and I got a laugh out of that.

Inside they still have the jail cells with the - fold down from the wall - metal beds....and the heavy metal doors that rolled shut and locked as needed. Not a pleasant place to be back then if you were on the wrong side of the law. It was interesting though and we had fun looking through all the rooms and all the "stuff."

After our trip to the "jail" we traveled on down the road to a couple of nearby greenhouses so mom could find some hanging baskets for her shepherds hook in front of her house. We did lots of looking and finally found some beautiful geraniums that would fit in nicely....but I couldn't resist getting a picture of this beautiful Oregano plant. I never realized they were so pretty....and delicate looking.

While wandering around looking at plants I discovered some baby goats nearby and couldn't resist getting a picture of one.

With our plants loaded up we headed back home and enjoyed the beautiful countryside scenery the whole way. It was a beautiful day and a relaxing trip. I was sorry to see it come to an end.

Bless the Lord, all His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

  1. Did you get any "steals" at the place that "cells" antiques?

Sounds like a fun day. Wish I could have been there too.

  2. Oh...that was a "baaaaahhhhhhd"(in reference to the goat) pun!

Even thought it was a nice place to "escape" to and visit ...nothing "caught" our eye!

  3. The photo of the oregano plant is stunning. Every time you have one of these stellar photos you should cull it from the rest and make an album of them.

I loved seeing that 1920's screen door again. That place was busy how did you ever get a photo shot without all the people? And without my seeing you? Mom
